The Problem of Inflammation

In 2004, Time Magazine called inflammation “The Secret Killer”. Women's Health Magazine calls it “The Enemy Inside You”. One way or another, inflammation is at the root of almost every serious chronic illness.

Inflammation is a natural reaction to trauma or injury. It is an integral part of the immune response that takes place to heal wounds and fight infection and disease. It’s also involved, however, in a large variety of chronic problems ranging from asthma to auto-immune diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis. Out-of-control inflammation can contribute to serious health problems including cancer, heart disease, asthma, and auto-immune diseases.

The Treatment of Inflammation

At Alchemy Radiant Health we work with you to determine the true causes of your inflammation and then design a customized program of treatments to get you well again. One of the most important foundations in treating inflammation is transitioning to a healthy diet of whole foods. Why? Because modern processed foods are highly inflammatory – even many of the so-called “healthy” options. Once we have a good dietary foundation in place, we add Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine treatments to accelerate the healing process and help you reduce stress levels (also a major contributor to inflammation). Chinese Medicine offers a comprehensive system of treatment for both systemic (body-wide) inflammation including allergic responses ranging from asthma, edema, sinusitis, and colitis, to more local joint based inflammation such as tendonitis.

In Chinese Medicine, inflammation isn’t viewed as a specific disease. Instead, we examine the flow of Qi, blood, and water, looking for blockages. Normally, these substances and energies flow along the meridians, blood vessels and through the internal organs. Their role is to nourish the limbs, joints and internal organs to ensure proper day-to-day function. When their flow is interrupted, health problems occur. Acupuncture is an excellent treatment for correcting these imbalances and reducing inflammation.
